Coach makes an introduction on the activity

Materials needed

✓ Writing material (pens and paper)

✓ A table where all participants may sit around

Proposed location

✓ Indoors, in a protected room that allows exposure

Steps

1.

Τhe group sits around a table on an empty space in a circle. The facilitator gives the instructions and starts first by giving the example. Each participant introduces himself/herself by his/her first name (eg Hi, I am Carol / hi, my name is Ahmed) (2 minutes).

2.

After completion of the first round of introductions each participant completes his name with a noun that he likes or it just starts with the same initial (for example Carol Chocolate, Ahmed Almonds etc) (2’)

3.

Then they have to add a verb with the same initial of our name (e.g. Carol Consumes Chocolate, Ahmed Adore Almonds etc.) (3 minutes).

4.

Finally, the sentence is completed with an adjective with the same initial (Carol Consumes Cold Chocolate, Ahmed Adore Affordable Almonds etc.) (3 minutes).

5.

In the next phase, the participants should write on a piece of paper as many words as they can that begin with their initials (it is advisable to make sure that they use nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs) in the next 5′ minutes. (If there is a language issue, participants may write in their mother tongue.) (5 minutes).

6.

After that, the participants have to put all these words in a logical order and use them to write a text that makes sense even if it has no coherence. They can of course add and use words with the same initial but also articles, conjunctions and auxiliary verbs. (15 minutes).

7.

Finally, each participant must find an uncomfortable position (or a position that takes him/her out of his/her comfort zone) and read out loud to the group the writen text.  (30 minutes).

Closing up

  • Feedback round. Each participants shares his/her feelings about the experience.
