Find a specific focus in a Memory / Story to tell
convey important details of a story through limited images
The participants must have found a memory or story they want to work on
Materials needed
✓ No materials needed
Proposed location
✓ Any location
Steps
1.
The participants are asked to produce a 1,30 min “trailer” for their “story”.
2.
Tell participants to
Imagine your story as a movie.
Imagine how that movie would be presented as a trailer.
A trailer that tells the people what the story is about, but still leaves people wanting more.
3.
Each participant has 10 minutes to come up with an idea
4.
When the time is up everyone “tell” their trailer in front of the group
Closing up
- Thank everyone for their creativity
- hold a feedback round in a circle, what did they choose to include? What did they leave out and why? When did they feel it worked? When did it not?
To go further
- Ask the participants to distill even more from this trailer: can they chose just 3 elements they feel are of the utmost importance? (even better if they can identify them with only 1 or 2 words each)
- Discuss with the Photographer on how those 3 elements can be presented as a photo.
Tips
✓
This is an advanced exercise and should be used when the participants have a clear idea of the story they want to tell and how they want to tell it.
